NEWS UPDATE:
Lecarrow King, winning
at Horse of the Year Show 2009
Lecarrow
King (Village Boy - Lecarrow),
beautifully produced and ridden by Sam Roberts, had a wonderful
season under saddle in 2009 winning a number of prestigious
championships as well as being placed l't at the Horse of
the Year Show which made him Ridden Connemara Pony of the
Year. After a 3 month Winter holiday, he went back to competing
at a few early shows with Sam and has qualified for the
Heritage M & M Open Championships at the Royal International
Horse Show in July. After Sam's accident - broken leg -
her mother, Suzi, took the ride and won the HOYS qualifier
at the South of England on June 12th - a very moving occasion.
King has been back at home continuing to cover mares, but
is due to re-appear in public at the BCPS Breed Show on
July 17th.

Rosscon Sunrise

Our 4 Year Old Stallion,
who is part owned by P J Watson from Ireland (Rosscon Stud),
has just started his ridden career. Expertly broken by Caroline
Gordon after winning his class at the BCPS Breed Show in
2009, Sunrise has also been shown by Sam Roberts in the
Spring of 2010.
Winner of the BSPS Novice Heritage
class at the BSPS Area 14 Show at Henfield on 17th February,
he then went on to take the Championship on 28th February
at Addington, BSPS Area 7 Show and won the Connemara section
of the finals at the NPS Spring Championships in April.
Whilst Sam is recovering from her accident in the show ring
when she broke her leg in 2 places at the end of May, Sunrise
is at Lockinge and he too has several mares to cover. He
is also having plenty of jumping lessons and will hopefully
compete in working hunter classes in the Autumn, when Sam is back riding again. He will also go to the Connemara Breed Show in July.
The Aim
of the Stud
Hester Knight,
who for many years served on the British Connemara Pony
Society Council and was President of the Society when she
died, had a wonderful eye for a pony. Her daughters, Henrietta
and Celia, grew up riding Connemara ponies and in particular
had a special gelding called Irish
Mist by Carna Bobby out of Patricia II. His granddam
was Windy – a very famous mare in the Connemara Pony
Breeders Society (CPBS) Stud Book. In the 1980’s Grayswood
Starlight and Grayswood Village
Peregrine, both by Atlantic Swirl - were purchased
and they had countless successes under saddle – the
latter was Champion Ridden Mountain and Moorland pony at
Olympia in 1982. Hester always stressed the importance of
nice heads, correct conformation, free movement and good
bone. Today, the same principles are being applied at West
Lockinge Farm and foals are being bred from select mares
who have good temperaments and top pedigrees.

in Spring 2008. Lightly shown in Ireland including winning
a Championship in Connemara and placed 2nd Royal Dublin
Horse Show 2008. Outstanding temperament. Won
numerous classes in 2009 in UK including at HOYS. In 2010
he has qualified for the Heritage M&M Open Championships
at the Royal International Horse Show in July and Horse
of the Year Show in October.
